Ecolite

The Ecolite IPL system delivers exceptional results and effectively solves a number of cosmetic and aesthetic skin problems. These include:

Permanent hair reduction

Ecolite uses IPL (Intense Pulse Light), short, safe bursts of light emitted from a flash-lamp to remove unwanted hair from all body areas in minutes. Put an end to slow and painful methods of hair removal. Shaving, waxing and hair removal creams have been replaced by hair removal in a flash.

IPL provides a safe, convenient and permanent solution for the removal of unwanted hair. It treats a much larger area of skin per light pulse than laser hair removal, which means treatment can be faster and cheaper.

A number of sessions will be required to achieve the desired outcome, but Ecolite IPL guarantees complete reduction, as illustrated below.

Skin Patch Test

Why do I need a skin patch test?

A skin patch test is extremely important as we will be able to assess whether or not you are a suitable candidate for IPL. The skin patch test will show if you have any discolouration, discomfort, swelling or will show us that you have no reaction at all and that you can continue with your treatment. A skin patch test is carried out on each area you want treating as one are may react differently to the other one.

If you show no adverse reactions for 48 hours after your skin patch test you will be able to continue with your full treatments. Once you have had your skin patch test and you are able to continue with your treatment, you MUST always tell your IPL operator if anything has changed since your last visit, ie, medication, health, skin condition. Adverse reactions are rare but they can happen which is why we strongly advise having a skin patch test.

How do I prepare for a skin patch test?

You must have hair in the area that is to be treated, this is how we can assess your hair colour, thickness and growth. You cannot use any other form of hair removal other than shaving for at least 8 weeks prior to your skin patch test.

Your skin has to be in good condition, ie, not dry or irritated. Your skin cannot be tanned

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Intense Pulsed Light work?

The Intense Pulsed Light system releases precisely controlled strong pulses of light that are absorbed by melanin, the pigment in hair. The absorbed light heats the hair, which damages or destroys the re-growth potential of the follicle, all without damaging the surrounding tissue.

How does the treatment feel?

No anesthesia is required and most clients don't experience any discomfort at all. Sensations vary but most describe it as a very short flick on the skin or similar to a rubber band snapping onto the skin.

How many treatments are necessary?

Only hair in the active growth stage of the growth cycle is affected, therefore multiple treatments are needed. Treatment is conducted every 4 to 6 weeks, depending on the site treated, until a satisfactory result is seen. The number of treatments required varies but typically 6 or more treatments are required for maximum results.

What will I see after the treatment?

The hair follicles are damaged by heat but the hairs remain in the follicles. The hairs fall out after 1-3 weeks as the epidermis renews. During this period the hair will seem to 'grow' as they are pushed out by the new epidermis. After treatment the hairs are loose in the follicle and can sometimes be easily pulled out with tweezers.

Are there any side effects?

The skin may become red immediately after treatment, although most clients don't experience any side effects. Any skin reaction usually disappears within a few hours. We recommend 100% aloe vera gel as this has cooling and soothing properties, Sunscreen should be used to avoid exposure to sunlight during the treatment period. Sun tanning activates the melanin in the skin which could result in pigmentation marks. Sunbeds should not be used for the duration of the treatment course.

How long does each treatment take?

Treatments can take from 15 mins to an hour, depending on the area being treated.

How should I prepare for an IPL treatment?

Hairs in the area to be treated should be 1 to 2 mm long. The treated area is shaved prior to treatment to maximise the transmission of the IPL energy. Long hairs absorb the light and can prevent penetration of the follicle. If you normally shave the area to be treated, you can continue to shave up to the day of treatment. You must not pluck, wax or bleach the area. Avoid epilation and waxing 4 weeks prior to your treatment. This ensures as many follicles as possible contain a hair that can be destroyed by the light. Tanning should also be avoided one month prior to treatment and during the entire treatment process.

After the course you should avoid strong sun light for 4-5 days as the treated skin is particularly sensitive to UV and sun-light. On the day of the treatment avoid use of deodorants, perfumed products or aromatherapy oils. A patch test will be carried out at least 24 hours before the time of treatment time.
